Claude for Startups is a program from Anthropic, the company behind Claude AI, that helps new businesses access software offers, technical advice and events where founders can meet and learn. It supports people building a business, including those using their own money instead of investor funding. Official program overview
Availability update — 14 October 2026: the current cohort is full and Anthropic is not accepting new applications. Existing members retain program access. If you want to join a future cohort, the official page offers a startup newsletter for reopening updates. Current program FAQ
Below, we explain the current member benefits, the previous cohort’s eligibility rules and what to check if applications reopen.
What kind of help are you looking for?
Founders often group very different benefits under the word “funding.” Separate them before you apply.
| Benefit | What it means for your business |
|---|---|
| API credits | A balance toward eligible model usage; not cash you can spend on rent or salaries |
| Subscription access | Use of specified software features or seats for the applicable period |
| Partner discounts | A reduction in another provider's bill, subject to that provider's conditions |
| Investment | Capital provided through a separate investment process and agreement |
This distinction helps you ask the right question. If your immediate problem is inference costs, credits may help. If you need working capital, a software-benefits program will not solve it.
What were the eligibility requirements?
Anthropic's 6 October 2026 announcement gives this eligibility rule: your startup must have been founded within the last five years OR received funding within the last two years. These were alternative conditions for the announced cohort. Applications are now closed; do not assume the next cohort will keep the same rule. Official expansion announcement
A bootstrapped startup is a business supported mainly by its founders' money or its own revenue. A pre-seed startup is at an early stage, often developing its product and testing demand. A venture-backed startup has investment from venture capital investors. The previous expansion welcomed these groups without requiring VC backing. Program FAQ
The published terms also require that:
- The person applying has authority to accept the terms for the company.
- The application is complete and compliant.
- The company meets the location, legal and export-control restrictions in the terms.
- The applicant is not excluded through employment, family or other connections to the program's operation.
Anthropic evaluates factors such as traction and Claude usage, and makes the final eligibility decision. Its terms allow changes to the program. The previous age or funding rule did not guarantee approval; it does not reopen applications now. Official terms
For the next cohort: no reopening date or complete future application requirements are established by the current public page. Confirm the new rules when applications reopen.
What do current members receive?
Current member benefits include partner offers, Applied AI group sessions and founder events. The current page advertises up to $45,000 in combined partner value and a conditional partner-VC credit route. Earlier launch offers are shown separately below; none is a promise to new applicants.
| Benefit | What it provides | Status checked 14 October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Startup Stack | Partner offers, redeemed through Claude Console | Available to members; provider conditions apply |
| Applied AI sessions | Live group sessions with questions and answers | Every other week for members |
| Founder community | Event, hackathon and meetup invitations | Attendance and space vary |
| Additional VC credits | Up to $100,000 through a partner VC | Conditional; not standard membership |
| Free Claude Team year | Earlier launch offer of up to five Premium seats for companies new to Team | Historical offer; not available as a new application benefit |
| $1,000 API credits | Earlier launch offer toward model usage | Historical offer; verify any existing award in your account |
The launch offer details come from the 6 October announcement; the cohort closure notice and current member benefits come from the current program FAQ.
The announcement values the combined partner offers at up to $45,000. That is a maximum across offers, not a cash award or guaranteed saving for each company. Actual value depends on what you can redeem and use. How the advertised value is calculated
What should you do while applications are closed?
If you are not a member, visit the official program page for reopening updates. Its current route is the startup newsletter, not a new application. If you are a member, use the member sign-in to check offers in your account. Current access routes
If applications reopen, check the new eligibility rules and complete the form linked by Anthropic. Save the decision and confirm which benefits were actually awarded before including them in your budget. These are our practical recommendations, not a claim that applications are open now.
Prepare for a future application
Our recommendation is to make your explanation specific enough that someone outside your company can understand it quickly.
Prepare a short description of your customer, their problem, the product you are building and the role Claude would play. For example, “We use AI for productivity” tells a reviewer little. “We help small accounting firms turn client documents into draft summaries for staff review” explains a concrete workflow.
Keep your company details consistent across the application and the account used to claim benefits. Save the submitted information and confirmation messages. These are practical preparation steps, not a promise of approval or a substitute for the form's actual requirements.
Work out whether a perk saves you money
Consider this hypothetical example. Your prototype has a model-usage bill of $80 a month. A $1,000 credit balance would cover 12.5 months at that unchanged rate if the balance remained valid that long and every request qualified. An earlier expiry, a more expensive model or higher traffic would change the result.
The useful calculation is:
Usable savings = eligible spending avoided before the benefit expires.
Check the awarded offer for its expiry, permitted account, covered services and spending controls. Also estimate the bill after the benefit ends. A prototype that is affordable only while credits last needs a different plan for production.
Partner offers deserve the same scrutiny. A discount on software you already need can help. A discount that persuades you to buy an unnecessary annual subscription creates a new expense.
What about actual startup investment?
Anthropic announced the Anthology Fund with Menlo Ventures in July 2024: a $100 million initiative financed by Menlo to support selected AI startups. That historical announcement describes investment support and product benefits for backed companies. It is separate from joining Claude's startup program. The announcement alone does not establish today's application availability or guarantee investment. Anthology Fund announcement
If investment is your objective, verify the fund's current route and prepare for an investor conversation about customers, differentiation, economics and progress. Do not treat a credits application as a funding application.
Can you apply now?
No. The current cohort is full. Follow the official page for reopening updates, or check your existing member account if you were accepted.
Budget using benefits you have actually received. Treat an unapproved offer as a possibility, and keep a workable plan for the bill you would pay without it.
